Stockholm Vacation Planning GuideAlthough Stockholm's geography may seem intimidating (all those islands look like a navigational nightmare on a map),

Although Stockholm's geography may seem intimidating (all those islands look like a navigational nightmare on a map), rest assured that the city is very walkable. The city center is compact, and an excellent public transportation system is useful for getting to outlying parts of town. We recommend buying a Stockholm Card, available at tourist-information centers. It's good for rides on city buses and the subway, as well as admission to lots of attractions.

BusIntercity buses come and go from Stockholm's Cityterminalen, right next to Central Station, at Klarabergsviadukten 72. Swebus operates throughout the country (phone toll-free 020-021-8218; http://www.swebusexpress.se). For service to continental Europe, you'll use Eurolines Scandinavia (http://www.eurolines.dk). YBuss is a central clearinghouse for bus schedules and rates (phone 0771-334-444; http://www.ybuss.se).
